The Devil missed.

The Hemlock Stone is a tall sandstone pillar with a dark cap. The tale says the Devil was woken by the prayers of a monk at Lenton Priory and threw a rock at the priory. He fell short, and the rock is the Hemlock Stone. Geologists say it is a natural formation.
