The wild man in the woods.
A wild man is said to have lived in the woods near Stainfield and killed people and livestock. In some versions a Tyrwhitt kills him. A wild man has been on the Tyrwhitt crest since 1541, so LFTP thinks the tale grew from heraldry. A small wild man carving is in Stainfield church.
