The river spread him everywhere.

John Wycliffe was rector of Lutterworth. In 1428 his remains (or, says Wikipedia, possibly a neighbour's) were dug up, burned and the ashes thrown into the River Swift. The Spectator quotes the old saying that the Swift carried them to the Avon, the Severn and the sea, as his teaching spread.
