Stones that climbed the hill.

St Chad's was founded before 1170. Legend says Gamel the Saxon thane began building by the River Roch, but each night the stones were carried up the hill. Watchers saw goblins doing it, so the church was built on the hilltop where it stands, reached by a long flight of steps.
