Free street performance; collections taken. Parking very limited.
St George fights Bold Slasher in a hilltop square every Good Friday.
Every Good Friday the Heptonstall Pace Egg Play is performed in Weavers Square, Heptonstall. The Halifax Courier describes it as a traditional mumming play telling the story of St George taking on contenders such as Bold Slasher and the Black Prince of Paradine, with mock combat. On Good Friday, 3 April 2026, the Heptonstall team played at 11.15am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 4pm, with the Midgley Pace Egg at 3pm, and the Hillmillies Morris danced between plays. The Midgley play tours the valley beforehand. HebWeb asked people to come on foot or by public transport, as village parking is very limited.
