St Mary's Chapel, first recorded in 1272, was a place of medieval pilgrimage; part of the ruins was long known as the Hospital, the pilgrims' hospice. It was dissolved in 1548. St Mary's Well, 100m west, is a holy well whose stonework dates from the 17th century, with a capstone carved 'gratia'.
