Before you go

Working parish church on the site of Bede's monastery. Check before you go.

  • St Paul's Church, Jarrow
  • Near A185
  • The pin marks the spot.

Sit, wish, wait.

An old oak chair at St Paul's is called Bede's Chair, though carbon dating places it in the 14th century. Local legend says newly married brides who sit in it soon fall pregnant; another version says anyone who sits in it is granted three wishes.
