Stars and stripes in a Northamptonshire church.

A stone with the Washington arms (three stars over red bars) is set in St James' church, said to commemorate Sir John Washington. Thrapston Heritage says the US flag is said to have its origins in the Washington arms; Wikipedia records only that these elements 'have been said' to have inspired the flag.
