Walk the Dark Entry on a Friday night, they say, and if Nell Cook meets you there, you won't see the year out.

The Dark Entry is a vaulted passage in the cathedral precincts, running beneath the Prior's Lodging between the cloisters and Green Court. The legend says Nell Cook was a servant to an elderly canon who took a pretty 'niece' into his house. When the canon and the niece both died from a poisoned dish, Nell was blamed. She was buried alive under the paving stones of the passage. Her ghost is said to walk there, especially on Friday nights, and Harper repeats the warning that anyone who meets her will be dead within the year.
