Now thus.

The de Trafford family crest shows a man threshing with a flail, with the motto 'Now Thus'. One tale says a Trafford fought the invading Normans, then hid as a thresher in a barn. Asked why he had brought himself so low, he answered 'Now thus'. Another says a Trafford fooled Roundhead soldiers the same way.
