The milk-white doe.

A ballad tells of Lord Thomas of Radcliffe and his kind daughter Ellen. While he was out hunting, her jealous stepmother sent Ellen to the cook with the words 'dress that fair and milk-white doe', a signal to kill her. A scullion boy begged to die in her place. The ruined stone tower still stands.
