  • DatePainswick Feast / Clypping (Sunday on or after 19 Sep)

The village holds hands right round its church.

On the Sunday on or after 19 September, people in Painswick form a ring round St Mary's, hold hands and 'clyppe' (embrace) the church while they sing the clypping hymn. The parish says this gives thanks for the church. Wikipedia lists it among the old Feast Sunday customs, with the 'dog pie' (not made of dog), and says both have been revived.
