Twisted oaks, mossy boulders and the kennels of the Devil's hounds.

Wistman's Wood is a patch of stunted, moss-covered oaks among granite boulders on the West Dart. Wikipedia derives Wistman from 'wisht', making it the Devil's wood, and says the Wisht or Yeth Hounds are kennelled there. Robert Hunt recorded the Wish Hounds hunting across the moor along the Abbot's Way, past the Dewerstone and Wistman's Wood.
