'Where are my pearls?' a little voice asks in the dark rooms of Temple Newsam.
Temple Newsam is a great house on the edge of Leeds. Its famous ghost is the Blue Lady, Mary Ingram, granddaughter of Sir Arthur Ingram, who rebuilt the house. Leeds Council says that at 14 she was coming home from a party when highwaymen ambushed her carriage near Garforth and took her favourite necklace, a christening gift from her grandfather. She woke next day with no memory of the theft, convinced she had lost it. MyLearning says the necklace was pearls, that she starved herself to death, and that her spirit still searches the house. Visitor assistants have reported hearing a voice in the Gothic room.
