The pool is beside a lane north of the church. Check before you go.
A dragon in a bottomless pond, and a farm boy with a pie big enough to need a horse and cart.
North of Lyminster is the knucker hole, a deep round pool said to be bottomless. It was home to the Knucker, a water dragon whose name comes from Old English nicor, 'water monster'. It ate livestock and villagers. In one version a farmer's boy called Jim Pulk or Jim Puttock, from Wick, was promised a reward by the Mayor of Arundel. He baked a giant poisoned pie and took it to the hole on a horse and cart. The dragon ate the pie, the horse and the cart and died, and Jim cut off its head. Villagers are said to have tied together the church's six bell ropes and still not reached the bottom.
