The water here runs red. Some say a cup is hidden under the hill.

Chalice Well is a spring at the foot of Glastonbury Tor whose water leaves a red stain on the stones. Tradition says Joseph of Arimathea brought to Glastonbury the cup used at the Last Supper and hid it near here, and that the red water flows from it. Edward Hutton, writing in 1912, gives the hiding place as Chalice Hill beside the well. The well-head is closed by a wooden lid with an iron design of two linked circles. Today the spring rises in a walled garden kept by a trust.
