  • Shuck's Lane, Overstrand
  • Near B1159
  • The pin marks the village; the exact spot isn't recorded.

On the cliff road out of Overstrand, listen for paws you can't hear. If one red eye looks back, it's too late.

Glyde's Norfolk Garland describes Shuck as a huge black dog that roams the coast road between Beeston and Overstrand, and says a lane in Overstrand is called Shuck's Lane after him. Dutt adds the features most people now know. Shuck is as big as a calf and has a single fiery eye. He pads silently along lonely roads and churchyard paths, and meeting him means you will die within the year. People claimed he would follow a traveller at their heels and that his breath could be felt. He is East Anglia's most famous phantom hound, and this stretch of the north Norfolk cliffs is one of his oldest haunts.
