Barefoot every week.

Sir William Bradshaigh was away for years, and his wife Lady Mabel married a Welsh knight. When William returned, he killed the knight at Newton-le-Willows. As penance Mabel walked barefoot once a week from Haigh Hall to the cross on Standishgate. William and Mabel were real, but there is no evidence she remarried.
