Hoofprints in the snow, over walls and across rooftops.
One February morning in 1855 people around the Exe estuary woke to find lines of hoof-like prints in the snow, running for many miles over walls and roofs. Wikipedia says the trails covered 40 to 100 miles; a Reverend Musgrave suggested escaped kangaroos. The BBC says The Times named Topsham, Lympstone, Exmouth, Teignmouth and Dawlish among the places affected. No explanation was ever agreed.
