After Camelot fell, the queen came to Amesbury and took the veil.

Amesbury had a real abbey of nuns, founded around 979 and later a priory of Fontevraud with royal ladies among its sisters. One strand of the Arthurian legend has Queen Guinevere withdraw to an abbey and die there. The old French romance leaves the abbey unnamed, but the fourteenth-century English Le Morte Arthur names it as Amesbury, and Malory followed. There she lived as a penitent nun, and Lancelot found her there. Nothing links the real priory to a historical Guinevere.
