Three hills in a line, each one a Devil's footstep. Thor watched from Thursley, and threw a rock.
The Devil's Jumps are three steep little hills in a row on the heath near Churt, which Cobbett likened to squat sugar-loaves. One story says the Devil amused himself by leaping from one hill top to the next. This annoyed the god Thor, who lived nearby at Thursley, and he threw a great boulder at the Devil and drove him off. Another tale has the Devil steal Mother Ludlam's cauldron and kick up a hill each time he jumped. Wikipedia notes that the Thor version probably dates from the early 1900s.
