Acton: listen for hooves near Nursery Corner. The horses pulling this coach have no heads.

Victorian contributors to Notes and Queries recorded two ghost tales at Acton near Long Melford. On certain nights a coach was said to leave the old park and race along the road to a spot known as Nursery Corner, where it vanished. Not far away lay Wimbell Pond, where an iron chest full of money was believed to be sunk. A white figure was said to haunt the water, crying, as if mourning the treasure or the person who had hidden it. Lady Gurdon reprinted both stories in 1893. Neither the coach nor the chest has ever been found, and the exact places are no longer known
