He washed his own severed head in a spring, and kept walking.

St Decuman was a Welsh hermit who, the legend says, crossed the Bristol Channel on a raft or bundle of rods and landed near Watchet. He lived in the woods with a cow that fed him with her milk. A local man cut off his head while he prayed. Decuman picked up his own head, washed it in a nearby spring and carried it back, some versions say all the way to Wales. The church on the hill above Watchet bears his name, and Hutton says the spring lies close by.
