A sexton who rang till death.

Locals once lit a beacon to wreck ships. In a storm in 1629 Sexton Guymer locked himself in the church and rang the bell to warn a ship. He was found dead, still pulling the rope. The captain gave money to keep the curfew bell rung, which went on until the late 20th century.
