For nearly two centuries the churches of Warrington have walked the streets together each summer.

Warrington Walking Day began as a Sunday school festival, when the town's churches walked together through the closed streets around the end of June. The Warrington Guardian says it has been held for nearly 200 years. In 2026 the council withdrew funding because of its financial crisis, and the traditional event did not take place. A new group of church leaders and residents stepped in. 'Walking Day Reborn – Standing Together in Faith' was held on Saturday 4 July 2026 in Bank Park and around the Town Hall. It included prayers, hymns, a funfair and a museum memories desk where people shared their Walking Day stories.
