Iron gates opened in the rock. Inside, an army sleeps beside white horses, waiting for England's last battle.

A farmer was taking his milk-white mare to Macclesfield Fair. At Alderley Edge the horse stopped, and an old man with a staff offered to buy it. The farmer refused, but nobody at the fair would buy the mare. On the way home the old man made the offer again, and this time the farmer accepted. Near Stormy Point the old man waved a wand, and iron gates opened in the rock. Inside, sleeping men lay with white horses, waiting to ride out if England is ever in danger. The wizard paid the farmer from a chest of treasure and sent him home.
